No Problem
No Driveway, No Curb —
No Problem
Most Baltimore homes are brick and formstone rowhouses with marble steps and the front door right on the sidewalk. No driveway. No curb setback. Nowhere to stage a pile. So we do the part the curbside crews won't: we carry it to the rear alley, or double-park on your permit block and load from there. The carry is already in the flat price — a sofa is a flat $126, and there's no stair fee.
The one thing every Baltimore rowhouse has in common
Open a rowhouse door in Federal Hill, Canton, Highlandtown, or Charles Village and you're standing on the sidewalk — there is no driveway to back a truck into and no strip of curb to set your old couch on while you wait for someone. The furniture is usually a floor or two away from the street, too: down in a full basement up a narrow interior stair, or up on the second and third floors of a two-and-a-half-story row. That's the access reality the national franchises quietly price around. They see the basement steps or hear "there's no driveway" and out come the surcharges — a per-flight stair fee, a long-carry fee, a heavy-item fee — none of which were in the number they gave you on the phone.
We built our Baltimore pricing the opposite way. The whole reason to hire a full-service crew here is that the carry is the job — so the carry is in the flat price, quoted from a photo before anyone drives. No driveway, no curb, no problem: we get it out of the house and onto the truck, and you lift nothing.
Where we load when there's no curb
Out the back to the alley
Baltimore's rows almost all back onto a service alley or a small rear yard. We carry it straight through the house — or out the back door — and load from the alley, so nothing ever touches the front sidewalk.
Double-park the permit block
On a residential permit-parking street with no alley access, we pull the truck up, flashers on, and carry it the short distance out the front while the crew loads. In and out, no pile left behind.
Up from the basement, down the stairs
The couch in the basement, the mattress on the third floor — we bring it up the narrow interior stair or down the marble steps first, then out whichever way your row allows. That part's included too.
You don't have to figure out which one applies to your block — tell us the address when you book and the crew works it out on arrival. The price doesn't change based on which door we use.
What it costs — the carry doesn't add a dime
The number you get from the photo already covers the labor, the carry, the truck, and the dump fee. There is no separate line for stairs, distance, or "no driveway access." For a sense of the market, national franchises typically quote $150–$600+ for a single couch once you add their minimum and their access fees; ours is a flat $126, priced before the truck rolls.
| Item / Volume | Flat price |
|---|---|
| Sofa / couch | $126 |
| Loveseat | $119 |
| Queen mattress | $103 |
| Dresser | $126 |
| Refrigerator | $164 |
| Full-basement cleanout — quarter truck | $241 |
| Half truck | $431 |
| Three-quarter truck | $587 |
| Whole-rowhouse — full truck | $732 |
$75 minimum. Stairs, basement carries, marble steps, long carries to the alley, and permit-block loading are all included — no surcharge. Clearing more than one room? Send one photo of everything and we price the lot. No Maryland sales tax on the service.
Your options when there's no curb to drag it to
| Option | Cost | Who does the carry | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| DPW bulk pickup (311) | Free | You | 3 items/month, one Saturday, curbside only — you drag it up from the basement and onto the sidewalk yourself, then hope it's gone by evening |
| Self-haul to the transfer station | ~$20 disposal + your truck | You | You still get it up the basement stairs and into a truck with no driveway to load from |
| Curbside "junk" service | $111–600+ | You stage it, they grab it | Many only take what's already at the curb, or add a stair/long-carry fee once they arrive |
| JunkRabbit | From $126 flat | We do | None — photo quote, we carry it to the alley or off your permit block, you do nothing |
Historic-district know-how, not a new permit
Some of the tightest access in the city is in the protected historic districts, and it's exactly where a crew that doesn't know Baltimore gets stuck. In Fells Point the streets are 18th-century cobblestone one-ways with heavy bar and foot traffic — you load out without blocking the block or you don't load at all. Federal Hill and Bolton Hill are wall-to-wall marble-step rows on residential permit blocks. Mount Vernon is grand brownstones carved into no-elevator walk-up apartments, so the whole job is a multi-flight stair carry-down. None of this requires a special permit you have to chase down — it requires a crew that has done it a hundred times and knows how to stage the truck, time the alley, and get in and out clean. That's what you're hiring.
What we carry out
- Single heavy pieces — a sofa, a sectional, a mattress and box spring, a dresser or armoire stuck up on the third floor.
- Full-basement cleanouts — decades of storage carried up the narrow interior stairs and out to the alley, priced as truck-fill.
- Whole-rowhouse move-outs — a settlement or lease-end clear, top floor to basement, in one trip.
- Appliances — fridges, washers, dryers, and water heaters wrestled up from the basement (fridge freon recovered and documented).
- Everything in between — bikes, exercise equipment, a wet couch, the odd pile from a renovation.
Where it goes after it leaves your alley
Anything still usable is routed to donation — Goodwill of the Chesapeake, the Salvation Army, the Habitat for Humanity Chesapeake ReStore, or St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore — so a good couch or dresser furnishes another Baltimore home instead of going in the ground. What's left gets broken down so metal, wood, and recyclable material are pulled out, and only the remainder is tipped at the Quarantine Road or Northwest transfer station. The disposal is already in your flat price; there's no dump fee waiting at the door.
When people book the no-curb carry
- Move-out before a settlement — the row has to be empty for the closing and there's no driveway to stage a load.
- A new couch or mattress is coming — the delivery's Saturday and the old one is still in the basement.
- Cleaning out an inherited rowhouse — a full house, top to bottom, with only alley access.
- The city's Saturday won't work — you can't drag three items to the curb one weekend a month, so you hand it off instead.
What Baltimore rowhouse owners say
"No alley behind our Canton row and no driveway, so I figured this would be a nightmare. They double-parked, carried the sectional and a mattress straight out the front, and were gone before the neighbors noticed. Flat price, no stair fee."
"Fells Point cobblestones and a cranky one-way — every other company either said no or wanted a huge access fee. These guys knew the block, loaded out the back to the alley, didn't hold up traffic. Exactly the local crew I needed."
"Sacaron un refrigerador y un sofá de mi rowhouse en Highlandtown hasta el callejón de atrás. Sin cochera, sin problema. Precio fijo, el mismo día."
No-driveway, no-curb questions
Do you charge extra to carry it out with no driveway or curb?
No. The carry is in the flat price — up from the basement, down the marble steps, out to the rear alley. No stair fee, no long-carry fee, no heavy-item fee.
Where do you park and load?
Whichever your row allows: out the back to the alley or rear yard, or double-parked on your permit block with the flashers on. You never stage anything on the sidewalk yourself.
Do you know the historic-district streets?
Yes — Fells Point cobblestone, Federal Hill and Bolton Hill marble-step blocks, Mount Vernon walk-ups. We load out without blocking the block. It's local know-how, not a permit you have to pull.
How much does it cost?
The same as anywhere, because the carry's included: sofa $126, queen mattress $103, dresser $126, full-basement cleanout as truck-fill from $241 to $732. $75 minimum, disposal included, no Maryland sales tax on the service.
Same-day, and do you speak Spanish?
Usually same-day — send a photo for the flat price. Y sí, hablamos español en Upper Fells Point, Highlandtown, y Dundalk.
