Mount Washington
Tucked into the wooded hills of Baltimore's northwest corner, Mount Washington feels more like a small town than part of the city — Victorians and mid-century detached homes on steep, tree-shaded lots, most reached by a long driveway that climbs or drops off the street. That's the whole access story up here: not marble steps, but the grade. We park where we can, carry it up or down the drive to the truck, and put the carry in the flat price. Garages, basements, and whole-home estate clears, photo-quoted flat.
The hill is the job — and it's in the price
Most of Baltimore is the flat, marble-step rowhouse. Mount Washington (21209) is the exception. This is a hillside village of detached houses — Victorians with wraparound porches, mid-century homes tucked into the trees — on steep, wooded lots served by long driveways that often can't take a truck all the way up. So the access challenge here isn't a narrow interior staircase; it's the grade of the driveway. That's exactly where a national chain slips in a long-carry surcharge once they see the hill. We don't. We stage the truck where it fits — at the bottom of the drive or on the street — and carry it up or down to the truck, and the carry is already in your flat price. No long-carry fee, no hill fee.
Because these are real detached homes, the volume lives where it does in the suburbs: the garage, the shed, and the storage under the house. Packed garages are the single most common job up here, followed by basement and whole-home estate clears as the older homes turn over. Everything is photo-quoted flat — labor, the carry, the truck, and disposal all in it, with no Maryland sales tax on the service — and usable pieces go to Goodwill of the Chesapeake, the Salvation Army, or the Habitat Chesapeake ReStore. Same-day pickup is usually available.
What we haul in Mount Washington
- Garage cleanouts — years of tools, boxes, lawn gear, and old furniture, carried down the driveway to the truck.
- Detached-home estate cleanouts — attic, basement, garage, and shed as the Victorians and mid-century homes turn over.
- Basement & under-house storage — damp boxes and stored furniture pulled up the grade.
- Appliances & exercise gear — fridges (freon recovered), washers, dryers, treadmills, and home gyms.
- Yard-adjacent junk — old grills, patio sets, and shed clear-outs from the wooded lots.
Long driveways, steep grades — planned around, not surcharged
Mount Washington's driveways are famous for their pitch: some climb sharply from the street into the trees, others drop below the road to a garage tucked under the house. Either way, we plan the job around the grade instead of charging for it. We scout where the truck can safely sit, protect the path, and carry the load the distance it takes — up the hill or down it — to load out. On the tighter wooded lots where a truck simply can't make the top, we stage on the street and shuttle. None of that changes your number. You get the flat photo-quoted price whether your driveway is level or a 20% climb, because the carry is what we do.

Common questions
My driveway is really steep — extra charge?
No. The grade is the normal Mount Washington job. We stage the truck where it fits and carry up or down to it, and it's all in the one flat price. No hill fee, no long-carry fee.
Can you do it same-day?
Usually, when a slot's open. Send a photo, lock the flat price, and we'll give you the soonest window — often the same day for a garage load or a couple of big items.
Do you handle appliances with freon?
Yes — refrigerators, freezers, and window AC units. The freon is recovered and documented before disposal, as required. A refrigerator is $164.
What happens to the usable stuff?
Usable furniture and goods go to Goodwill of the Chesapeake, the Salvation Army, or the Habitat Chesapeake ReStore; the rest goes to a city transfer station. Disposal is in your flat price.

What Mount Washington customers say
"Our driveway drops straight down off the road and no one wants to deal with it. They parked up on the street, carried a garage full of junk and an old fridge up the hill, and never once mentioned a surcharge. Flat price from a photo, done in an afternoon."
"Cleared my mother's mid-century house on the hill — attic, basement, garage, and the shed out back. Careful on the wooded lot, donation receipts for the estate, broom-clean before we listed. Kind, steady crew."
"Got rid of a treadmill and a home gym from the basement — down a long steep driveway to the truck. Photo quote, no games about the hill, same-day pickup. Would use again."
